A (Tourism) Star Is Born
Many congratulations to our very own Barbara Frost, Blue Badge Guide, for winning ‘Tourism Star’ at the 2012 Manchester Tourism Awards. Barbara is a lynchpin of the Manchester guiding circuit, having spent many years looking after the city’s visitors and having been involved in a wide range of tourism businesses.
As the photos prove, it was a glittering affair, held in the sumptuous surroundings of the Quays Theatre at the Lowry. When Barbara’s name was read out on the shortlist, you could hear cheering all round the theatre, from the upper levels to the stalls. Winning this award was fitting recognition on behalf of all those to whom she had provided assistance throughout the years.
Manchester Guided Tours was honoured to be shortlisted for the small ‘Event of the Year’ category. Although not a winner this year, we were very pleased to get a mention on our first attempt at this award. Look out for us in future years as we are confident that our time will come! Our congratulations to all the worthy winners this year, many of whom we work with in close partnership.
These awards reflect the fact that Manchester is the country’s third most popular tourism destination – with over one million foreign visitors every year – and that the industry generates £5.8 billion a year for the local economy.
Enjoy this short video showing the highlights of the 2012 Tourism Awards. Look out for Barbara winning her award and Sibby congratulating her!
